Blogging Month Day 28: Meme Monday

Filed under: Barenaked Ladies, music, Uncategorized — liberrydwarf @ 4:05 pm

Today’s meme is bonitoclub’s “My Life According To” meme. And My Life will be answered according to songs from long-established Canadian rock band Barenaked Ladies, who have been my favourite band for almost half my life now. (It does help that they have 9 studio albums plus EP’s plus special releases to choose from 🙂 )

My life according to Barenaked Ladies

Are you a male or female: I’ll Be That Girl

Describe yourself: Bull in a China Shop

How do you feel: Upside Down

Describe where you currently live: Peterborough and The Kawarthas

If you could go anywhere, where would you go? Hello City

Your favourite form of transportation: Helicopters

Your hobby: Alcohol :p

Your best friend? Maybe Katie

You and your best friends are: Alternative Girlfriend

What’s the weather like: Hidden Sun

Favourite time of day: When You Dream

If your life was a TV show, what would it be called: Life, in a Nutshell

What is life to you: Same Thing

Your relationship: I Love You

Your fear: Spider In My Room

What is the best advice you have to give: Wrap Your Arms Around Me (actually, that song is I’m pretty sure about domestic violence, so don’t read too much in there…)

Thought for the Day: Never Do Anything (it’s been one of those days)

My soul’s present condition: Crazy

My motto: Everything Old Is New Again

Plus Bun toting librarian’s bonus…

A statement on libraries: I Live with It Every Day

I’m not sure if I’m amused, disappointed or horrified at how easy that was…

It’s about networking and being nice to people and not burning any emos…

What makes a bad week? Discovering MySpace, that’s what… talk about time wastey (non)goodness! At least my tween cousins don’t change their MySpace accounts as often as they do their email addresses so I have SOME way of keeping tabs on them… If someone doesn’t throw a bucket of cold water on me, I might even get me a FaceBook account next…Anyway, onto some time-wasting of a less emo flavour!

1) This first one, I guess, is for my Aunt & Uncle, congrats on the 25th wedding anniversary. Anyways, they’re big home-brewers and chocoholics, so this recipe for Oreo Beer (http://www.brewboard.com/index.php?showtopic=73608) might intrigue. Or make them (and you) violently ill. Who can tell?

2) Actually I lied and haven’t really moved on from myMySpace addiction. The first band to ever friend me, Barenaked Ladies, have theirs here (http://www.myspace.com/barenakedladies). Tasty new music samples, videos and tour dates abound (of course never any tours in my hemisphere, but we can dream…)

3) Yet again I get another reminder of how very lucky I am I don’t work in the public sector….although it is nice to see that the librarian still commands a little respect around, as this entry from Overheard in the Office (http://www.overheardintheoffice.com/archives/004084.html) demonstrates…

I never travel without my diary. One should always have something sensational to read in the train.

8 Days to Spain! If one more person asks me whether I’ve started packing, I will shoot them and then have my passport cancelled so I won’t be able to go.

And while my diary isn’t quite going to Oscar Wilde’s (see above) I do plan to try and blog the trip to make you all jealous!

This week:

1) I’ve been grinning at what a turd-head Michael Crichton is: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/12/14/books/14cric.html?_r=1&ex=157680000&en=5f655def0e7d4adc&ei=5124&partner=permalink&exprod=permalink&oref=slogin. When I’m a writer, I promise not to be anywhere near as much of a turd-head. The man makes Germaine Greer look like someone’s nice drunk Nanna…

2) I’ve been trying desperately to get in a holiday mood: I found http://babychaos.wordpress.com/2006/12/15/the-most-pathetic-christmas-joke-of-all-time/ on someone’s blog, and think I may have gotten my christmas spirit together 🙂

3) I read an awesome review of BNL’s latest wonderful album, Barenaked Ladies Are Me. http://www.boingboing.net/2006/12/03/barenaked_ladies_are.html. What excited me even more is that it’s written by Cory Doctorow, who wrote “Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom” which I liked a lot. In the words of Homer Simpson, “Everything has come together in a neat little package”!

Until next week (mere hours before Spain!), God Rest Ye Merry Blog Readers. Let Nothing You Dismay. (Except for celebrity antics and crappy work christmas gifts…)
