The urge for Chinese food is always unpredictable…

Filed under: Food, games, Humor, Kittens — liberrydwarf @ 5:25 pm

Just recovered from being horribly horribly sick from Yum Cha. I thought maybe it was just me, I’m a bit of a food wuss. But nope, turns out everyone in the whole family was sick so thus ends our Yum Cha excursions…

Yum ChaYum Cha

Yum ChaGag… even just the thought now makes me feel a bit ill. Have some links to soothe the stomach…

1) Okay, maybe this doesn’t quite fall under the heading of soothing the stomach… in the grand tradition of the Meat Cake and Giant Burger of previous posts, it’s the ever-delightful Beer Cupcakes. A binge in every imaginable way…

2) Have some Pythonesque fun playing around with the Silly Walks Generator…would the Ministry give you a grant for yours?

3) And finally, just especially for those with birthdays coming up, the Internet is (as usual) ashamed to present… Cat Butt Merchandise!

Three old ladies and a park bench…

Filed under: I.T, News Articles, Statistics, Trivia, YouTube — liberrydwarf @ 6:51 pm

“Three old ladies named Gertrude, Maude, and Tilly were sitting on a
park bench having a quiet conversation when a flasher approached from
across the park. The flasher came up to the ladies, stood right in
front of them and opened his trench coat and flashed them.

Gertrude immediately had a stroke.

Then Maude also had a stroke.

But,Tilly, being older and feebler, couldn’t reach that far.”

Yeah, you’re supposed to laugh now…

Anyway, sorry for the week’s silence – it was Show Day, nobody blogs on Show Day! In this country it’s traditional once a year to give everyone one day off to look at monster trucks and piglets, eat too much strawberry icecream and puke on the Thundertron 3000… Australia really is the lucky country! (If you’re from overseas and have no idea what I’m talking about, we call it The Ekka – it’s kind of a sad tiny state fair. There are flickr pictures from people who aren’t me here…)

So this week…

1) Serious one – but still fun – it’s The World Clock. Not only does this baby tell you the time, you also get the stats and growth figures on everything from internet access points and US divorces to bicycles produced and drowning deaths. Useful, pretty and terribly, terribly depressing – take a look!

2) Loving inappropriate governmental misuse of modern technology, if you haven’t already heard it (you under-rock-liver you!) take a look at one of lots of news stories this week about the CIA secretly editing Wikipedia pages… quick, Howard government, redirect Kevin Rudd’s wikipedia entry to Hooters, now! What? What do you mean it already goes there…? (Apologies overseas-ians, you probably won’t get that one either…)
3) Finally, we haven’t had much YouTube-ness lately have we…? Here’s a piece from MadTV where “Steve Jobs” launches the “new Apple product”, the iRack… witty political commentary abounds! Even Australians get this one!

Small children go to heaven, Goats go to hell…

Filed under: Animals, Comics, Humor, Kittens, Librarian, News Articles, Overseas — liberrydwarf @ 6:33 pm

The inevitable has finally happened – they put log-in tracking on YouTube and MySpace access here at work. My liberrian’s prerogative has disappeared! Unable to watch pirated episodes of Pokemon with the sound down anymore, I shed a tiny tear (and maybe a mournful “pik-AA”) and bring you tonight’s links…

1) Tonight in The Penny Arcade (another of my favourite webcomics!) they discuss that most perennial of problems – what exactly DO you call a male librarian?

2) Proving with style and substance that there’s a support group (well at least a satirical support group) for everyone out there, it’s The Childhood Goat Trauma Foundation. As a sad and paranoid member of the Donkey, Ibis, Goose, Small Dog and Elderly Bull trauma foundations during my childhood, I certainly sympathise…
3) Finally, from the wacky wonderful world that is South East Asia, the Dallas News reports on a new initiative to clean up bad police behavior in Thailand. Here’s a clue:

Hello Kitty

One word: Suffer.

Harry Potter and the dirty Hor(crux)…

Filed under: art, Books, Humor, movies — liberrydwarf @ 11:07 am

Hoping you’ve all been super-well, and reasonably fanfic-free this week.

1) Like 99% of the rest of the world I’ve now finished Harry Potter 7. Not without a tear, and a dash of confusion, I will admit. And I have seen movie #5 twice too, wretched creature that I am…Anyways, come and vent, group-hug, or pay the whole thing out at MuggleNet. No less fun even if you think the whole concept is really really sad…

2) From the folks who brought you Phallic Logos (well, maybe not, but it goes in the same basket) we have 15 Unfortunately Placed Ads. Gets me wondering just how innocent those poster-gluer-upperers and advertising monkeys are. Naivety? Or subtle anarchism? Your call…

3) Finally, anotherBookCrossing tie-in (I guess it doesn’t have to be, but I use it that way), A trading post for science-fiction and fantasy books, you get credits for sending out your own books which you use to request others. If you’re a fan and someone who can bear parting with books, take a look! I mean, now you don’t need your Harry Potters anymore, do you??
