“I am Beowulf, and I am here to kill your monster (oh, and everything you ever loved about “Beowulf…”)”

I am grouchy this week, upset with Neil Gaiman/Robert Zemeckis (NEVER thought I’d say that sentence) – just WHAT exactly was wrong with the old Beowulf? Why why WHY did you have to change it? Yes, the addition of Angelina Jolie’s boobs probably does add an extra zero at the end of your box office takings, but couldn’t you have left it at that?? (No spoilers ahead, rant over…) Let’s all console ourselves with links, quickly…

1) I’m writing a conference paper on Facebook (yes, on work time, my life is that good!) and in my research (*giggles*…”research”, she calls it) I found out that no, Social Networking isn’t just for college kids, emo teenagers and middle-aged singles. Now it’s for pets too. This week you get a double-whammy of links – Catster.com and Dogster.com, social networking sites for cats and dogs respectively. Cat mummies and dog daddies make their hairy babies a profile and friend other dogs. No butt-sniffing necessary (but “poking” does take on a different nuance here…) Note: you think regular blogs are boring? Dog blogs are worse, my friend…

2) This one care of my (supposedly) gorgeous sis-in-law… apparently, now, Flatulence is the Reason for the Season. Complete with exploding heads and eerily catchy christmas theme song, enjoy The “Christmas with the Sproutifarts” Game. Noisy, gross and very addictive. Guarantee you will never eat another sprout with a clean conscience…

3) Last but not least, an oldy-but-a-goody makes it onto youtube. A blonde walks into a library…

For dust you are and to dust you will return…again and again and again…

Up to my eyeballs in old book dust again this week – I swear they leave things lying around here for thirty years until some poor young enthusiastic schmuck runs out of regular work to do, then they rub their hands and go “Oh boy have we got a job for YOU!!”…

So pass the tissues and take a look at some links, my friends!

1) Another one for the wacky celebrity photo files – What would the world’s biggest stars look like if they were ordinary people? These pics from PlanetHiltron.com reveal the answer!

2) Think you know your Christmas carols? Put your knowledge to the ultimate test with Brownielock’s Christmas Song Picture Quiz. (This is a tribute to the 100-odd international students singing White Christmas out of tune outside my office window. Thanks. No really.)

3) This week’s YouTube features the vocal talents of Eddie Izard, the plasticky goodness of Leo, and the undying geekiness of Star Wars… May the Sauce be with you! Peace Out!

Ah, summer, what power you have to make us suffer and like it…

Hello world, and welcome to summer! (Or winter, if you’re one of those upside-downsie folks in the wrong hemisphere!) Time to drive around more half-naked than normal, begrudgingly shave our legs, and work overtime to stay in the air conditioning… and breeze our way through some nice summer time-wasting!

1) Allow me a gleeful huzzah – the Liberry has hit the motherlode! A timewaster that DOES THE WORLD SOME GOOD!! It’s FreeRice – the premise is you pick the synonym/definition of the word from the list, and for each one you get right the website donates 20 grains of rice to the UN to feed starving people. So there you go, it’s your duty as a decent human being to waste some time – don’t say we didn’t tell you so!

2) Now we Aussies are world stage having signed Kyoto, it’s apparently time to take care of our other big problem – the demon that is the platypus, according to one blogger. This has got to be a spoof blog, right? They’re a big screwed up, your old platypus, but surely not demonic? Unless I have indeed been seduced and stung into madness and damnation…

3)  Finally, we’ve settled the arguement once and for all – we suck and chimps rule, according to this news article from the Australian. Oh well, at least we’re too dumb to remember it for long…
