“Apology is only egotism wrong side out”

Apologies for no entry last week – everything just kind of catches up with one at once, doesn’t it? I slap my own wrist, with assurances I’ll do better next time – and give you a super-size dose of fun this week to try and make up for it! *Throws links and runs!!*

1) It was going to be first on my list, but since Kalafudra beat me to blogging about it, we can all go and read about the 2008 Bulwer-Lytton Awards for the worst opening sentences of the year from HER blog. Lazy, yes. Generous, sure. Willing to admit defeat and bow to a superior blogger (certainly a far less lazy one) of course. But probably mostly lazy. But that girl does have a great sense of the weird, we at the Liberry tip our hat to her!

2) Now for a news story. And yes, it’s from the wonderful world of libraries, as if we didn’t have enough problems getting people to take us seriously. Helpful hint from Auntie LiberryDwarf, kiddies. If you’re going to write a “fictional” account of all the crazies who patronise your place of employment, try to veil them at least thinly. And for heavens sake, don’t put a photo of your actual workplace on the front cover. Or if you do, have the decency to NOT WONDER why you’ve been fired…

3) #3 this week is, unfortunately, possibly bad news. Bad news for Harry Potter fans anyway. Though to be fair, real HP fans probably have known about this for ages anyway, and I can hardly consider myself a source of breaking news. But it is a bit annoying. It does solve my “See it in Australia or wait til London” dilemma, but does nothing for my “See HBP ten times or see Star Trek 11 ten times” dilemma. Oh I lead such a frying-pan-slash-fire existence!

4) This week we’re playing with other types of video – I’m in a snit because of YouTube disabling embedding for last week’s clip and making me look like an idiot… Anyway, if there is one question you ask yourself every morning, I bet it’s not “Is it a good idea to microwave (insert random object here)??” Thankfully for all of us, these guys do…

‘When lenity and cruelty play for a kingdom, the gentler gamester is the soonest winner.”

Okay, okay, so Wednesday was a public holiday, and I had no excuse not to blog, I know… but I rediscovered Planescape Torment. Seriously – I’m hooked again. Only coming up for air here, people. If you haven’t ever experienced the absolute awesomeness of this game (or have no idea what I’m talking about) click the link, go find out. If you do play you won’t regret it (unless you’re a stupid-head…)

Erm…before I lose any small amount of respect anyone ever had for me on here, here are this week’s links:

1) We all know I love a food disaster. And the best food disaster? Something someone paid good money for, that’s right! And something that was supposed to be meaningful and make people happy, but ends up a bit of a joke? You know you want it. You know you want Cake Wrecks… enjoy. Remember not to lick the frosting spoon.

2) Just in case my AD&D RPG obsession wasn’t enough – yes, I used to be in Scouts. Scouts have a bit of a geeky reputation (at least they do here in Aus). And yes, I will admit, there are/were some kids in Scouts that were kind of schmucks. But as this story from (what I’m guessing is) Britain shows us, there ain’t no party like Jamboree, never let it be said Scouts don’t know a good time when they see one…

3) Finally, as I watch the Olympics every evening, bewail the fact they don’t broadcast the Fencing here, and wonder to myself just why can’t I seem to turn off the Judo if I find it that dull?, I wonder – if Finland gets the games, will this be a demonstration sport? Please, Finland – say “Kyllä”…

“You know what your problem is, it’s that you haven’t seen enough movies – all of life’s riddles are answered in the movies.”

I’ve just come back from the Monthly Movies jaunt I do with my friends, and oh BOY did this month make up for last month’s Indiana Jones debacle! Keeping it brief, I’ll just put the opinion out there that “Wanted” was awesome. Okay, so some of the stunts were cringeworthy. And the whole thing did leave me hating myself for being so boring and not doing anything worthwhile with my life, sure. But awesome nonetheless. Fight Club meets the Matrix, maybe. If you’re into blenderization like that.

Mmm.... want!

Mmm.... want!

Drool check…. ehem….

So on the subject of awesome. And movies. And…um… nope, got nothing. Ah, here are this week’s links…

1) This one I’m throwing in especially for Kalafudra – If you love movies, and you love procrastination, look no further than Select Level of Difficulty. Randomize MovieQuote List. Guess Selected MovieQuote. Earn MovieQuote Point. Rinse. Repeat. Wonder where that whole morning could possibly have gone… you get the picture. No pun intended.

2) I felt it was time for weird food again – so we’re taking a little educational trip to the museum. That is, the Museum of Food Anomalies. As it says, “An online exhibition of the Art of Regular Food Gone Horribly Wrong.” Rude carrots abound (BC may enjoy!)

3) I cannot believe I managed to leave this final treat until last. Let’s just say – it’s teeny tiny, it’s spare-pants-requiring exciting, and it absolutely cannot be December 11th soon enough!
