Accident, n.: A condition in which presence of mind is good, but absence of body is better…

Filed under: Animals, Science, YouTube — liberrydwarf @ 8:37 am

Happy Halloween, for all you people who like that sort of thing. I bumped someone else when I was reversing this morning – another ute/pickup, I really know how to pick’em, don’t I? – and I left a note but I can’t tell what was there before and what I might have done. No scratches on my little red car though, and it’s practically made of tin foil, so my boss made me go take the note back so I wouldn’t end up paying to fix this other guy’s 20 years worth of scratches because I’m so gullible… trick or treat, eh?

Enough of what a bad driver on the road I am – here are the sights (or sites?) of this week’s drive around the Internets…

1) Continuing the dog theme of previous weeks, so very well matched it’s scary – check out these winners of the “I Look Like My Dog” competition

2) If you ever needed more proof that science can do pretty much anything weird or stupid, and that Americans are all crazy, here’s some – here’s the archive of America’s Goofiest Patents. Bear in mind as you view that these were all APPROVED. Yes, they passed the test. Whatever test it is. *Shudder*…

3) Finally, a Halloween salute – from those educational folks at CommonCraft, designers of the handy RSS in plain english, wikis in plain english, etc… I bring you “Zombies in Plain English”.

I’m not a dictator. It’s just that I have a grumpy face….

Filed under: Children, Classics/History, Trivia, TV, YouTube — liberrydwarf @ 6:04 pm

Super, thanks Pinochet, we all believe you. Speaking of grumpy, I can’t believe nobody answered my wooden box question? Shame on you people! Anyways, its just as well there’s such a thing as Forums and bored people out there or I might never be able to sleep for wondering!

Here are your links this week (though you don’t deserve them, bad blog readers, grumble grumble…)

1) The internet makes everyone an expert on something, doesn’t it…? That’s why I quite like the idea of Squidoo lenses. Go take a look if you have no idea what I mean. Anyway, some clever soul’s made a Monty Python Squidoo page, so rather than bring you snippets of Pythonism here and there, I thought I’d bring you the motherlode… every ham and jam and spamalot you’d ever need!

2) The Godchecker is the ultimate resource for religious reference, trivia and a bit of fun. Also guaranteed to appeal lots to Dungeons and Dragons gamers, people who like to name cats silly names, and Stargate fans who disagreed with scriptwriters choices for Goa’uld character names…

3) Finally, as tribute to my lovely boss asking me to make our next year’s orientation programmes “A bit more emo, so they appeal to the kids” (groan!!!) I thought we’d all get a big mascara-d hug from Tickle Me Emo, courtesy of MadTV…

What do you put in a wooden box to make it lighter…?

Filed under: Animals, Humor, Kittens, YouTube — liberrydwarf @ 8:37 am

It’s holes, isn’t it? I mean, it just has to be, right? That question was on the radio on my drive home yesterday, and gosh darn it if I didn’t lay awake half the damn night thinking about it! If you’re a sciencey-science-head or someone smarter than me (not hard, I’m a bit of an airhead) please make me feel better, tell me I’m right!

Erm, anyway…

1) Just because I like giving the Almighty new reasons to reserve my spot in Hell everyday, this week I’m bringing you The Bible in Lolcat. (If you don’t know what Lolcat is, do a Google search, and hang your head in shame as you obviously haven’t been paying enough attention to this blog.) Yet another reason why we should probably cry and hate the internet…

2) And before anyone whines that I’m cat-prejudiced, here’s a list of humorous Dog Breeds That Didn’t Make It, and for good reason. Warning: guaranteed groans ahead.

3) Finally, this week’s video (not YouTube, we’re experimenting here at the Liberry). Hypothetical – what would happen if Microsoft designed and marketed the iPod?

I never expected to see the day when people would get sunburned in the places they now do…

Filed under: Comics, I.T, Kittens, Science, TV, YouTube — liberrydwarf @ 9:44 pm

Booh. I bowed to the nagging and trekked to Floriade on the weekend down in Canberra, and now I have a horrible sunburn. Double booh. Darn librarian peer pressure! Pass me the aloe vera and read your damn links…

1) From the “hover cars and personal jetpacks” pile (only real) check out the newly invented laptop with inbuilt 30-year Battery! Pretty cool (and yay, 30 years of continuous Facebook and Sims Life Stories!) Though I bet you they’ve yet to invent a “doesn’t die when you accidentally drop it down a flight of stairs” laptop, have they?

2) Those who are fond of the whole LOLcats subgenre of internet humor (ie ICanHasCheezburger?) and consider themselves on the witty side of things may be amused by this “classy” Flickr gallery which claims to bring you the true origins of LOLcats

3) Finally, nostalgia hit if you grew up in the 80’s like me – remember the Sooty Show? Sooty, Sweep, Soo and the gang? Anyway, for this week’s YouTube treat I’ve chosen Sweep’s classic “Super Dog” introduction…

(The early 80’s psychedelic Sooty was always way better in my opinion, but YouTube beggars can’t be choosers… if anyone knows where I could find those earlier episodes of The Sooty Show somewhere online leave me a note…)

Flowers are the sweetest things God ever made and forgot to put a soul into…

Filed under: art, I.T, Kittens, Trivia, YouTube — liberrydwarf @ 8:02 pm

¬†You know you work in a library when….(I’m sure there’s a blog called that too) you’re going away with your significant other for a family wedding in our national capital, and when you answer that no, your itinerary doesn’t include Floriade (the national flower show) you get pariah-ed for the rest of the day.

Sigh… anyway, here are your links for the week, proudly brought to you by the outcast librarian…

1) Wikipedia (and its satirical brothers and sisters) are for my money some of the best timewasters on the web – and you never know what you’re going to dig up! This week I present their List of Historical Cats for your pleasure. Did you know that Kaspar was the name of the wooden cat used at the Savoy Hotel in London to round out unlucky parties of thirteen at dinner? Well now you do. Aren’t you lucky?

2) A brain akin to my own, although slightly handier with a pen (and working knowledge of Paypal) – check out the twisted doodles of the Gnome of Truth

3) Got my Dad hooked on Facebook. Am going straight to hell. Anyways, for your YouTube fix tonight, here’s a sweet little parody of a Facebook infomercial (did I say that right? We don’t really have those here…) *shudders* no Poking, people…
